RX Fire Community

NCRCD has created a comprehensive fire curriculum, ABCs of prescribed burning, that are FREE. Follow our newsletters, review our calendar and sign up for as many classes as you can. Share with friends and family.

As well stated by our Butte RCD neighbors:

“When we learn to use fire in a good way, we build community… Fire at the right time and place keeps forests and pastures healthy. Everyone deserves a good relationship with fire! We are hill people and flatlanders, experienced fire professionals and total beginners, from all walks of life, ages 9 to 92. Everyone has something to contribute and everyone has something to learn.”

Our future is in our hands.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

One of the best ways to get good fire on the ground in your neighborhood, that benefits all is to work with you neighbors. Prescribed burns usually take several people or more. You and your neighbors share defensible space and a common need to have your neighborhoods resilient to fire. That means a wildfire can pass through and your homes and trees will still be standing.

We provide support for this approach in several ways:

  • Hosting workshops in Firewise Communities where we provide an opportunity for like minded people to learn how to burn safely, legally and responsibly together
  • Providing coaching on how to plan, prepare for and conduct prescribed burns
  • In the future, we will hold workshops specifically focused on establishing neighborhood prescribed fire teams
  • A limited number of microgrants to purchase mini prescribed fire equipment kits will be available to neighborhood groups who attend our workshops

So, attend an upcoming course or workshop and meet people that live near you and are interested in helping each other burn!
